Metal & Mud
Just as MetalCamp, we have been looking forward to this festival. According to many this is the most pleasant of all metalfestivals in Europe. We had to see this for ourselves. We believe this is one of the cheapest festivals. Tickets € 45, - for 3 days is certainly not expensive, but also the drinks (€ 2, - for 0.4 L) and food (€ 5, - for a huge plate of Indian food) are not very expensive.
The scenery is beautiful. Bad Berka, and the festival, are situated in the Thuringian hills in what was Eastern Germany. The arrival is what a metal festival should be. At the gate is written: "Welcome to Hell". Nice!!!!!!
HELL had already started and HELL went on as we entered the festivalgate. We were so naive not to believe we not allowed to take glass on the campsite. IT is NOT allowed and you will be checked (hint for next year)! Fortunately we had some empty water bottles that we could fill with all the drinks we brought. That problem was quickly resolved.
Putting up a tent in the rain is no fun, but it's not a huge problem. We had promised ourselves to the get the tent up first and celebrate with a beer (time: 09.45). We never put up the tent this quick....................
On many festivals outside the Netherlands and Belgium you're allowed to put up your tent next to the car and Part San is no exception. The advantage is that you can loads of stuff (big tent, party tent, BBQ and a lot of drinks. The disadvantage is that you have to camp at a busy road.

The sanitary facilities are quite good at Party San. They have quite a number of flushing toilets (€ 0.50 each time) and good showers (€ 2.50 each time). Paying every time nature calls is no pick-nick but they offer a solution, the Shit & Shower flat rate band (€ 6, - for the entire festival). You can also find a breakfast tent and a more important beer tent at the campsite. All in all, the facilities are adequate for the 4,000 guests that were present at Party San.
There is only stage (no running around to see all the bands) and almost all the bands are playing 45 minutes. Then there is a 15 minutes break for the conversion of the stage. Only the headliners have more playing time. After the last band you can go to the Metal Disco (each night). The Metal Disco begins at 1 am and continues until about 4 am.
The festival is kept small and you will run into your friends all day. It's likely you'll spend your day with horsing around with friends instead of watching bands. We were able to find only one drawback for the whole festival. THE SHITTY WEATHER. Damn! Thursday Rain, Friday rain, Saturday almost no rain and Sunday, of course, rain all day. All this rain converted the green meadows into muddy lake. On Friday you couldn't even imagine there has ever been grass on this festival. On Sunday the mud was everywhere, in the tent, in the car, in your clothes and all over your body but especially in every hole in your body.
Oh yeah, the music. Party San festival is not for Metal-sissies. There's just four types of metal here: Black, Death, Grind and Thrash. Delicious !!!!!
We still don't know if this is the most pleasant festival, but we can imagine it will come close if the weather cooperates just a bit more.
